Four Looks for Your Pilates Week
This is my complete pilates must haves UK 2026 guide. Rather than listing sets by category, I thought it would be far more useful to style five complete outfits - head to toe, accessories and all - so you can actually see how everything pulls together. Each look has a different vibe for a different day: the cool-blue studio morning, the ballerina-chic evening class, the cosy autumn walk-to-reformer, and the fresh weekend session.
I've created a flatlay for each pilates must haves look so you can see the full picture, and every single item is linked below so you can shop the bits you love. Prices are approximate and may vary.
Look 1: The Pilates Bluebelle
Cool-toned clean-girl energy - light blues, cream layers, a touch of gold.

Charlotte's Score: 9/10
This is the look that made me fall in love with Pilates girl styling in the first place. The light blue Adanola set paired with a cream puffer jacket and gold jewellery hits that effortless clean-girl balance where everything looks intentional but nothing looks overdone. The pastel cap from Ralph Lauren ties the colour palette together without being too matchy, and the Le Specs caramel sunglasses add warmth to the cool tones. Only reason it's not a 10 - the grip socks could have been a bolder contrast colour. But honestly, I'd wear this entire outfit tomorrow.

Look 2: The Studio Ballarina
Black flares, ballet wraps, blush pink accents - the quiet luxury Pilates look.

Charlotte's Score: 9.5/10
This one is my personal favourite. The Sweaty Betty Super Soft flares in black give it that ballet-meets-reformer feel, and the Sisterly Tribe ballet wrap in blush pink is the sort of piece that makes people ask where you got it. The headband from Alo Yoga keeps everything polished rather than gym-messy. What really elevates it is the accessories - the D.Louise gold hoops and the Varley grip socks pull the whole thing from workout outfit to actual aesthetic. This is the look that gets the most compliments at the studio.

Look 3: The Coffee Collective
Warm browns, cream layers, and a cosy quilted jacket - autumn studio mornings sorted.

Charlotte's Score: 8.5/10
Autumn Pilates in a flatlay. The AYBL coffee brown leggings paired with the cream TALA half-zip and quilted jacket gives warm, cosy energy that works just as well grabbing a flat white afterwards as it does in class. The silk hair ties and Stanley tumbler are the quiet details that make it feel curated rather than thrown together. I knocked half a point off because the colour palette is quite safe - it's gorgeous but doesn't have the standout piece that makes you stop scrolling. Still, for a reliable autumn studio look, this is hard to beat.

Look 4: The Modern 90's
Fresh moss green co-ord, cosy grey layers, and white sneakers - weekend energy.

Charlotte's Score: 8/10
The moss green co-ord from ASOS 4505 anchors this whole look and the colour is genuinely gorgeous in person. Paired with the grey On Running jacket and white Cloudtilt trainers, it has that 90s sporty vibe that's been everywhere on Pinterest lately. The Sony headphones in beige keep the palette cohesive. Where it loses marks for me is versatility - this is more of a weekend-brunch-after-class look than something I'd feel fully comfortable in during an actual Pilates session. The trainers especially are more street than studio. But for the lifestyle side of the aesthetic, it's spot on.

Look 5: The Budget Edit
Proof you can nail the full Pilates girl look for under £160 - Tesco, PLT, Matalan, and M&S doing the heavy lifting.

Charlotte's Score: 8.5/10
Proof that the Pilates girl look doesn't require a premium budget. The black M&S zip-through jacket and leggings form a clean base, the lemon yellow sports bra from PLT adds a pop of colour, and the Kitsch claw clips are genuinely brilliant at that price. The Sundae body mist is an unexpected touch but honestly it's the sort of detail that makes you feel put-together. The Sekonda smart watch and canvas tote keep it practical. I'm impressed that this entire look comes in under £160 - it doesn't look budget, it looks intentional. Half a point off only because the trainers could be more on-trend.

The Bags
The pilates bag is its own category now. You need something that fits your mat (or your grip socks, water bottle, and change of clothes if you're a reformer girl), looks good enough for the coffee shop afterwards, and ideally doesn't scream "I'm going to the gym."
Shop Ganni
Shop Adanola
Shop AYBL
Splurge: The Ganni XXL Tote is the statement option - oversized, logo-forward, and the sort of bag people ask you about. The Sweaty Betty Nimbus Mini Cloud Bag is the opposite energy - quilted, puffy, and quite chic for a gym bag. For something more functional, the On Cargo Pack 60L in Olive is serious kit - designed for people who actually need to carry things.
Midrange: Adanola does three solid options - the Nylon Bag in Black is clean and practical, the Branded Strap Tote is the one you'll see on Instagram, and the Heavy Canvas Washed Tote in Coffee Bean has a more relaxed, vintage-y feel. The TALA Essential Padded Tote is another good option - structured enough to look intentional, padded enough to protect your things.
Budget: AYBL's Branded Strap Tote and Sports Collective Tote in Off White/Navy both look considerably more expensive than they are. Canvas, oversized, logo detail - job done.
It's worth noting that the best approach to your pilates must haves uk 2026 is to build gradually - start with socks and a good bag, then invest in sets and accessories over time. You don't need everything at once.
The Shoes
You don't technically need shoes for pilates (grip socks handle that), but the shoes you wear to and from the studio are very much part of the aesthetic. And if you're someone who goes from pilates to errands to coffee, the right trainer ties it all together.
Shop Miu Miu
Shop On
Shop H&M
The On Cloudtilt in Moon White/Frost is the one I keep gravitating towards - chunky enough to look intentional, neutral enough to go with every set I own. They also do it in Black/Ivory if you prefer something darker. On's thing is the CloudTec sole - it genuinely does feel different underfoot, quite springy without being unstable.
The Lululemon Chargefeel 3 is the cross-training option - designed for people who do pilates AND lift AND run. It's more versatile than the On but less of a statement. The HOKA Clifton 10 is for the runners among us - maximum cushion, minimal weight, and that distinctive HOKA silhouette that's become quite fashion-adjacent. And the Alo Yoga Sunset Sneaker in Light Provence Blue is the aesthetic choice - less about performance, more about looking the part.
The Grip Socks: Non-Negotiable Pilates Must Haves Uk 2026 Item
Non-negotiable for reformer. Most studios require them for hygiene and safety, and once you've tried proper grip socks versus going barefoot, you won't go back. The grip pattern, the fit around the arch, the way they stop your feet sliding on the carriage - it all matters more than you'd expect.
Shop Sweaty Betty
Shop Adanola
Buy on Amazon
Splurge: Sweaty Betty Reformer Trainer Gripper Socks (2-pack in Sable Brown) and the Varley Kendrick Grip Sock are both excellent - strong grip, attractive design, durable through washes.
Midrange: Adanola Grip Socks in White or Light Grey Melange are solid everyday options. The Sisterly Tribe Grip Socks in Espresso are gorgeous - they match the SoftSculpt sets perfectly. And the Oysho Padded Cotton Pilates Socks from ASOS have that lovely crossover strap detail for under a tenner.
Budget: Amazon does surprisingly good grip socks if you know where to look. The Zuimei 4-Pack Mid-Calf Grip Socks give you four pairs for the price of one branded pair, and they genuinely grip well. The BONANGEL Pilates Grip Socks and BISOUSOX Non-Slip Socks are both decent starter options too.
The Jewellery You Can Actually Wear to Class
Here's the thing most people don't think about - if you're someone who never takes your jewellery off (that's me), you need pieces that can survive sweat, reformer springs, and the occasional shower. Tarnish-proof, waterproof jewellery isn't a luxury here, it's practical. Two brands do this exceptionally well.
D.Louise
Every D.Louise piece is made from stainless steel with PVD coating, which means it's genuinely waterproof - shower, gym, swimming, whatever. They offer a lifetime guarantee against fading, which tells you how confident they are in the quality. My picks for the pilates girl:
The Oval Hoops are the everyday earring - substantial enough to notice, small enough they won't catch on anything mid-class. The Mini Heart Necklace sits right at the collarbone and doesn't swing about during inversions. For layering, the Mid-Length Dainty Necklace and the Initial Chain Necklace are both lovely - pair them for that layered gold look that somehow always works with neutral activewear.
Abbott Lyon
Abbott Lyon uses multi-layer plating tested at the Birmingham Assay Office for sweat, sea, and chlorine resistance. They come with a 5-year warranty. Their pieces tend to be slightly more statement than D.Louise - a bit bolder, a bit more sparkle.
The Chunky Heart Huggie Hoops are adorable - they hug the ear, so absolutely no snagging risk during class. The Polka Dot Crystal Hoops add a bit of sparkle if that's your thing. For necklaces, the Sphere Chain Necklace has a textured, beaded look that's quite different, and the Kinetic Pave Necklace is the one for a bit of evening crossover - pave crystals, but still fine enough for a 9am reformer class.
The Hydration
Buy on Amazon
Buy on Amazon
Shop Adanola
I shouldn't have to explain the Stanley cup at this point - it's become the unofficial hydration vessel of the pilates girl, and honestly it earned it. The Stanley Quencher H2.0 Tumbler 1.2L in Cream keeps water cold for 11 hours, has the handle and straw situation that makes one-handed sipping easy, and it's dishwasher safe. The Cream colourway goes with everything. If you want something smaller for the studio, the Stanley Flip Straw Sports Bottle 0.7L in Rose Quartz is more compact and fits in cup holders.
For something less ubiquitous, the Adanola Water Bottle 950ml in Olive Green matches their sets and has a satisfying matte finish.
Headbands, Hair Clips & Caps
The finishing touches that separate "I'm going to exercise" from "I have an aesthetic and I'm committed to it."
Headbands: The Alo Yoga Performance Conquer Headband actually stays put during class - wide enough to keep everything out of your face without the headache-inducing tightness of cheaper options. For budget, the Oysho Sports Headband in Brown from ASOS does the job for under a fiver.
Hair clips: The Alo Yoga 90s Claw Clip in White Pearl is quite pretty - not just functional, actually something you'd want to wear out.
Caps: For the walk to the studio or a sun-drenched summer class. The Ganni Black Canvas Cap is the designer option - instantly recognisable. The On Lightweight Cap is more technical. The TALA Design Studio Cap in Soft Khaki and the AYBL Varsity Cap are both solid budget picks.
Pilates Equipment
Just two picks here because you don't need much - the studio provides the big stuff. But these two extras can genuinely level up your sessions.
The Sweaty Betty 2lb Ankle Weights in Dusk Beige are gorgeous - they match everything, and 2lb is the sweet spot for adding resistance to side-lying glute work and leg springs without overdoing it. The beige colourway is a nice change from the standard black.
The Yoga Collective Pilates Dumbbells are specifically designed for pilates - lighter than standard dumbbells, with a shape that's easy to grip during arm series on the reformer or mat work.
That covers the functional side of your pilates must haves uk 2026. Now for the extras that make the whole experience feel elevated.
Beauty & Skincare: The Studio Bag Essentials
What's in the bag matters. Here's what I think the pilates girl actually needs versus what's just nice to have.
Lip
Your lips will dry out during class - especially if you're a mouth breather under effort (no shame, we all are). The Tocobo Vita Glazed Lip Mask is my current favourite - it's a mask but it works as a heavy-duty balm, with a slight glaze that doesn't look too done. The The Ordinary Squalane + Amino Acids Lip Balm is the budget workhorse. And if you want the luxury option, the La Mer Lip Balm is absurd and wonderful and I can't in good conscience tell you it's worth the money, but it is very, very nice.
The Kate Somerville HydraKate Lip Oil deserves a mention too - if you want something that hydrates but also gives a slight tint and shine for the post-class coffee run.
Face
The Anua PDRN Hyaluronic Acid Mist is brilliant for a mid-class or post-class refresh - spritz it on sweaty skin and it genuinely helps hydrate rather than just sitting on top. Anua is my holy grail brand for a reason.
For the skincare-obsessed pilates girl: the FaceGym Sculpt & Lift Duo is a nice post-class treat for facial tension, the NuFace Mini in Sandy Rose is the microcurrent device everyone on TikTok has (and yes, it does make a subtle difference over time), and the Dermaflash Luxe is for the dermaplaning enthusiasts.
Body
The ESPA Body Brush is a pre-class ritual I've come to love - dry brushing before a shower, then class. It may help with circulation and it definitely helps with making your skin feel incredible. The Rituals Magnesium Body Spray is for post-class recovery - magnesium may help ease muscle tension, and this one smells lovely rather than medicinal.
For post-class indulgence, the Laura Mercier Honey Bath in Ambre Vanillé is the bath product that turns a normal Tuesday evening into something rather special. Warm, sweet, and genuinely luxurious.
Deodorant
Two excellent options depending on your vibe: AKT The Deodorant Balm is natural, effective, and has that clean-beauty credibility. The Vanilla Skin Deodorant from Space NK smells absolutely incredible - vanilla and warm skin, basically what you want to smell like when someone gets close to you during paired stretches.
Supplements
If collagen is part of your routine (and the research is promising but not conclusive - I always want to be honest about that), the Dose & Co Unflavoured Collagen Powder mixes into your morning coffee without any taste, and the Revive Collagen Marine Collagen Drink is the ready-to-drink option for people who can't be bothered with powder. Both are marine collagen, which may be better absorbed than bovine according to some studies - though I'd always say do your own research on supplements.
Tech & Wellness
Two gadgets worth knowing about. Neither is essential. Both are the sort of thing you try once and then wonder how you managed without them.
The Aecooly Slim Handheld Fan
This is the unexpected one, and I want to make the case for it properly because it sounds like a gimmick until you've been standing outside a reformer studio in July, overheated, trying to look like a functional adult while your face does something entirely different.
The Aecooly fan is beige, slim enough to disappear in your bag, charges via USB, and has three speed settings. It does exactly one thing: cools you down. But it does it without the visual chaos of a chunky desk fan or the noise of anything more powerful. You hold it at arm's length during the walk to the coffee shop and arrive looking like you didn't just do forty-five minutes of side-lying leg work. That's the whole pitch. It's small, it's on-brand, and it works.
At around £15, it's also the least financially committed thing on this list.
The FOREO UFO 2 LED Panel
This is the one that needs a proper argument, because the price tag is real and the claims around LED therapy are mixed enough that you deserve more than "it's great, buy it."
Here's the honest version: LED light therapy works. The clinical evidence for red light specifically - stimulating collagen production, reducing inflammation, improving skin texture over time - is solid enough that dermatology clinics have been using it for decades. The gap has always been between clinical-grade machines and at-home devices. That gap is now much smaller than it used to be.
The FOREO UFO uses a combination of red, blue, and near-infrared LED, paired with their app-guided treatments and warming/cooling functions. You use it with their serum sheets - two minutes, three to four times a week. Over eight to twelve weeks, most people who are consistent about it see a visible improvement in skin tone, texture, and firmness. It's not dramatic. It doesn't replace a good routine. But if you're already doing the skincare work - the double cleanse, the retinol, the SPF every morning - this is the logical next investment.
The pilates connection is real too. Reformer training reduces cortisol. Lower cortisol means less inflammation. Less inflammation means your skin responds better to everything you put on it - including LED. If you're going to invest in something like the FOREO, doing it alongside a consistent exercise routine is when it tends to perform best.
It's not for everyone. If you're still building your basic skincare routine, start there first. But if your routine is already dialled in and you're looking for the next level of results, this is a legitimate option rather than a gimmick.
Home & Wellness Vibes
Because the pilates girl aesthetic doesn't stop when you walk through your front door.
The Vieve Nova Candle (from Jamie Genevieve's brand) is the one I keep coming back to - warm, slightly smoky, and the vessel is quite beautiful once the candle's done. For diffusers, both the White Company Spa Wellness Pod and the Rituals Velvet Oudh Stone Diffuser look stunning in a living room - both ceramic, both elevated, and both make your home smell like a spa rather than a living room.
And for the planners among us, a Papier notebook is the pilates girl's journal - track your classes, set intentions, write down what your instructor said about engaging your pelvic floor so you don't forget. The designs are gorgeous and they feel lovely in your hands.
The Extras
A few final bits that didn't fit neatly into another category but are still worth mentioning: the Alo Yoga Glow Wristband 2-Pack for sweat management with style, and the Fierce Nature Selfie Stick in Rose Tint for capturing the post-class glow (because if you don't photograph the matching set, did you even wear it?).
Size Guide: Who Does What
One thing I wanted to include because it's genuinely useful - not every brand covers the same size range, and "XL" means different things depending on who made it.
Best for petite: Sweaty Betty does petite-specific lengths across most of their leggings. Adanola runs slightly short in the leg which actually works in petite's favour. AYBL's XS is a genuine XS.
Best for size 16-18: Sweaty Betty goes up to XXL (approximately UK 18). AYBL's XL is generous and accommodating. ASOS brands (Aim'n, Oysho) benefit from ASOS's extended sizing on some lines. Adanola and TALA currently cap at XL - something I'd love to see them expand.
Runs small - size up: TALA, Sisterly Tribe. If you're between sizes in either brand, go up.
True to size: Adanola, AYBL, Sweaty Betty. Order your normal size with confidence.
Your First Reformer Class: Complete Checklist
Not sure what to actually bring to your first class? Here's the no-faff checklist. You don't need all of this straight away - the essentials are the first four.
| Item | Essential? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Grip socks | Yes - most studios require them | Start with an Amazon budget pair |
| Water bottle | Yes | Reformer is deceptively sweaty |
| High-waist leggings | Yes | Avoid shorts - springs and footbars |
| Sports bra with full coverage | Yes | You'll be in various positions |
| Lip balm | Recommended | You'll thank yourself |
| A bag that fits a change of clothes | If you're going somewhere after | Tote or gym bag works fine |
| Hair ties/clip | If you have long hair | You need your neck free |
That's genuinely all you need. The matching sets and the Stanley cup can come later - get the first class done first.

Pilates Must Haves Uk 2026 - Frequently Asked Questions
Can I wear jewellery to pilates?
Yes, as long as it's low-profile and won't catch on equipment. Huggie hoops, chain necklaces, and flat rings are all fine. Avoid dangling earrings or anything bulky on your wrists that might interfere with hand placement on the reformer. D.Louise and Abbott Lyon are specifically designed to withstand sweat and movement.
Do I actually need grip socks?
For reformer pilates, yes - most studios require them for hygiene and safety. The grip pattern stops your feet sliding on the carriage and footbar. For mat pilates, they're optional but still nice to have. Start with an Amazon budget pair to see if you like them before investing in branded ones.
What's the best pilates bag?
It depends on what you're carrying. If you just need grip socks, a water bottle, and your phone, a tote bag works perfectly - Adanola or AYBL both do good ones under £30. If you're carrying a change of clothes and toiletries, look at something with more structure like the Sweaty Betty Cloud Bag or the TALA Padded Tote.
Is the Stanley cup worth it?
Honestly? Yes. It keeps water cold for ages, the handle makes it easy to carry, and the straw design means you'll actually drink more water throughout the day. The 1.2L Quencher is the most popular size. The only downside is that absolutely everyone has one now - if you want something more unique, the Adanola bottle is a good alternative.
What should I look for in pilates leggings?
High waist (they won't roll down during inversions), four-way stretch (you need to move freely), squat-proof fabric (self-explanatory), and ideally seamless or flatlock seams to avoid chafing. Compression is personal preference - some people love it, some find it restrictive. If in doubt, start with something mid-compression like AYBL Staple or Adanola Classic Seamless.
What's in your pilates bag? I'm always looking for new finds - drop me a message if I've missed something good.
